The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Connecticut, Avery Point Campus, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow I. The incumbent will assist Dr. George McManus. This is a two-year grant funded position subject to satisfactory performance, funding and annual renewal. Information about the McManus lab is available at

The incumbent's duties will include:

  • - Use of DNA-based methods to quantify diversity among microbial eukaryotes
  • - Laboratory cultivation of ciliates and microalgae
  • - Field and laboratory experiments
  • - Report preparation

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a Ph.D. in oceanography, microbiology, ecology, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with DNA-based methods, including PCR, bioinformatics, and next-gen sequencing is preferred, though not required; and knowledge of the morphological and taxonomic aspects of ciliate biology and cultivation would also be an advantage.
